Impact Report 2021/2022
Mums In Need (MIN) is a unique support service based in Sheffield for mothers suffering ongoing coercive control after separation from an abusive partner. We are working to move away from stereotypes and misconceptions around what a victim looks like and raise awareness about coercive control's multifaceted reality. We provide practical and emotional support for mum's who would otherwise struggle to find the help that they need.
During the last financial year we have supported 183 women, and 112 children.
Thanks to the public's help with donations and fundraising, we have been able to:
Support more women from our waiting list; and have reduced the waiting times from 5-6 months to 3-4 months.
We have recruited a new part-time Caseworker, part-time Administrator, part-time Finance Lead, and Part-time Marketing Lead.
Secured office space with two smaller rooms for play therapy and 1:1 sessions.
We will be delivering a lived experience leadership project where we are empowering 11 of our women to speak out, and take an interest in family court reform, develop partnerships and become Trustees.
We have had Increased media exposure in the last six months which helps with exposure.
CEO and one of MIN's Trustees were interviewed and filmed as part of a BBC2 documentary. Double page feature in the Sheffield star in January 2022. Approached to be featured in the BBC TV series 'We are England'.
We make a huge difference to the lives of the women that we support.
"There are not enough words to say thank you and describe my gratitude for all the support and kind words I received. Laura and her team are helping me to get through the hardest period of my life - the family court proceedings. Having 1:1 sessions helps me to not go crazy with all of the things happening in court. Thank you for all you do."
