MINnie, my sidekick, and I spent Pet Sit #5 with 🐕Bonnie and 🐕Bertie, a rather splendid chocolate lab duo. Bonnie is the matriarch at the grand old age of 14 and is long suffering when it comes to Bertie, age 3, who's all about 'the bounce'!
Bonnie is doing well and pops some 💊pills to keep her healthy. I've never met a dog who is so willing to take her meds. There's no need to hide it in brie balls, sandwich it in with a piece of chicken or any other tasty treat disguise tactics.
Meanwhile, Bertie LOVES his 🧸toys - even more so if he can share them with you. It's a sign of his affection if he brings one toy over to show you - and double affection if he can fit two in his mouth to show them both to you at the same time!
⚠️ Safety when looking after hounds is key. Bertie can be an escape artist, so comes with a tracker on his collar. At night, for walking along dark country lanes, we were both lit up like a pair of 🎄Christmas trees - him wearing one flashing collar with lights on and, wait for it, me sporting another (!), along with a high viz vest (just me for that one). These collars are rechargeable which definitely gets my thumbs up 👍.
Bertie is also nervous around gun shot resounding across the countryside from people hunting. Even though the noise was a long way off, he was utterly terrified, lying down flat in the middle of the (quiet, luckily for us) country lane and refusing point blank to budge. I managed to get him back home and we had play in the garden instead that day.
