This was a short sit with Jack and Sally, two indoor cats 🐈 🐈 🏠. Jack, aged 4, has been with their owners for longer, while Sally, aged 2, only arrived a few months previously.
Sally was chosen as a good match for Jack – he needed the company of another friendly cat, but one that would respect him as the boss. You see, neither Jack nor Sally have had the easiest start in life being rescues from the streets of Abu Dhabi. Jack, in particular, has had more challenges than most as he’s three legged. Both are indoor cats as, living next to a busy road, this is essential to keep them safe.
Abu Dhabi cats are more angular than the regular British moggies. They’re also very chatty. (This article tells you more about the street cats in UAE - https://lnkd.in/eXhY_h8A.)
So, what was daily life like with these two? They were shy at first, with Sally soon warming up and sneaking closer and closer for cuddles. Jack was the more reticent of the two; however, I did eventually gain his trust. Sally loved her play times, racing around at the speed of light after her toys. Play and interaction are extra important as these are young cats who are indoors full time. They still need stimulation and exercise.
Both of their lives revolve around food. This is hardly surprising as they probably spent much of the first few months of their lives fighting for whatever, if indeed any, food they could get. For this reason, their dried food meals are on a food timer, to ensure that they don’t overeat and space the time out between meals. I got the shock of my life 😯 the first time that the timer went off for them. I was sitting there quietly minding my own business with Sally, when the whirring noise of the lids popping up went off. There was a sudden commotion with both cats racing off to their respective food stations. After this initial introduction, I soon wised up to their twice daily routine.
The cats have wet food served in the evening. Jack has his own party trick for this – batting the food dish as you lower it onto the ground causing its contents to scatter everywhere. Even though I’d been pre-warned, he still managed to catch me unawares! Jack also has Yumove, a supplement to keep his joints flexible and strong.
💜 Thank you to Jack and Sally’s loving owners for being happy to share their story from the pet sitting front line.
