We’re looking to fill several Board roles including Chair, Vice Chair, and General Trustees, to start late June 2026. Please note these are volunteering opportunities and do not attract a paid salary.
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, and are particularly keen to hear from individuals with expertise in fundraising, corporate partnerships, safeguarding and legal matters.

Mums In Need is a Sheffield-based charity that offers a unique support service for mums suffering ongoing post-separation abuse and coercive control after separation from an abusive partner. We are a small charity with a skilled and dedicated team of staff and volunteers who offer an effective needs-led service.
MIN makes a massive difference in the lives of women who are vulnerable and often lost in the system with nowhere to turn for help and support. To enable us to continue to make this positive impact in our community we need a Board of Trustees who can provide expertise and guidance to support the delivery of our services by our dedicated team.
Becoming a Trustee
Becoming a Trustee of a charity is a very fulfilling opportunity. Knowing you are making a difference to the lives of others and within your community is extremely rewarding. As well as giving back, the Trustee role will enable you to gain new skills, experience and knowledge.
Trustees are legally accountable for the operation of the charity; its property, finances, employment of staff and the wellbeing of the volunteers. Applicants should have an awareness of the duties and responsibilities of being a Trustee.
Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking enthusiastic and committed people to join our existing Board of Trustees. You may have had previous experience at Board level or within the charity sector and while we would welcome this it isn’t essential as we will mentor and train you.
Ideal candidates will have experience of or a background in one or more of the following – leadership, or the desire to develop leadership skills, the legal profession, corporate partnerships, safeguarding, financial accounting, fundraising, service delivery, strategy and planning, governance, human resources, or IT systems.
Commitments
The Mums In Need Board meets four times a year, usually in the evening, either online or at one of our partner venues in Sheffield. The time needed to fulfil ongoing Trustee duties averages out at around four hours a week.
The Trustee Role
As a Trustee you will:
work as part of a team with other Trustees and the CEO making decisions in the best interest of stakeholders;
monitor compliance with relevant laws affecting the charity including safeguarding;
approve and drive the charity’s mission statement and priorities; review delivery of those priorities, work to mitigate associated risks;
review and approve financial goals, budgets and spending;
oversee and approve operational and strategic policies;
monitor the charity’s finances to deliver our service now and in the future;
