Trustee Vacancies

We are currently recruiting for the roles of chair, vice chair, treasurer and secretary to join our board of trustees. Please find the role descriptions for each vacancy below.

We are especially looking to recruit women with lived experience of coercive control to join our board of trustees.

As well as the responsibilities listed below, trustees will attend a board meeting every two or three months. Also, expect a day or two of independent work per month on Mums In Need (MIN) duties.


If you are tenacious, passionate, ready to speak your mind, and prepared to take on the responsibilities that come with being a trustee, we'd love to receive an application from you for any of the vacancies below.

Chair

The chair of our board of trustees needs to have leadership qualities to ensure meetings run smoothly, they need to be able to act as a spokesperson on behalf of the board and commit to the planning and preparation of meetings, including the AGM, and possess effective communication skills including written communication for the support of the CEO and other volunteers or staff who report directly to the board of trustees.

Vice Chair

The vice chair of our board needs to assist the chair in their role, including standing in for them in case of absence, support the CEO and any other staff or volunteers who report directly to the board of trustees, and possess effective communication skills including written communication for the writing of reports and letters.

Treasurer

The treasurer will act as a middle-person between the finance administrator, the CEO and the board of trustees, ensuring that the charity's financial risk-management processes are appropriate and functional, they will also lead on the duty to ensure proper, accurate financial records are kept.

Secretary

The secretary to the board of trustees will assist in ensuring compliance including organising training to enable trustees to best undertake their duties. Additionally they will maintain efficient and effective board meetings, making sure the timetable of meetings for the year is agreed, circulating papers for the meetings in a timely fashion and minute taking with accuracy.

Basic Trustee Responsibilities

In addition to the above, regardless of which role, a trustee is expected:

  • to act in the charity's best interest,

  • to avoid personal conflicts of interest,

  • to exercise reasonable care and skill,

  • to avoid activities that might place the charity's property, funds, assets or reputation at undue risk,

  • to adhere to the minimum contributions expected from board members outlined in the general trustee role description, found here.

As an organisation, Mums In Need uses Trello boards for different groups within to keep on track of tasks and enable collaboration and communication.
