In March 2025, our passionate ambassador Demelza proudly returned to the University of Sheffield as an alumna to participate in the impactful Let’s Talk About Abuse event held at the University of Sheffield Student Union. Representing Mums In Need (MIN), Demelza joined a panel discussion during an evening dedicated to raising awareness about domestic abuse and coercive control, post-separation abuse, and broader issues affecting women’s safety and wellbeing.
The event featured key voices from Sheffield’s community, including Francesca Fidele from Together Women, Clare Harding from YWCA, and an inspiring poetry performance by Chloe, whose work powerfully highlighted experiences of abuse and resilience. We were honoured to meet Florence Ruston and Babhravi Krishnan, co-founders of Catcalls of Sheffield, a charity actively campaigning against street harassment and catcalling.
The second half of the evening showcased a dynamic panel of women, Scarlet Brahms, Anne Myors, and Agy Gorzynska, who explored feminism in sport and discussed the critical role that sports and physical activity play in promoting mental health, wellbeing, and recovery from trauma.
A big thank you to Lucy Potter, Sheffield RAG fundraising champion, and Eloise Taylor, Women’s Officer, for organising and hosting this important community event. Their dedication helped create a powerful platform to amplify voices and deepen conversations about abuse prevention and women’s empowerment.
