Mother's Day with MIN

When we are little, we know what a mum is. She’s the person who reminds us to brush our teeth, the person who wipes away our tears when we scrape our knee, the person who tucks us in at night. She’s a mum. But as we grow older, we begin to recognise how the word mum summarises so much using so little.

A mum is the person who will fight with every fibre in their body to build a future for their children to be happy, safe and loved. A mum is the person who puts your life, your needs, your care above their own- always, forever. A mum is the person who you love, and loves you back in a thousand different ways, a thousand different times each day in return. Three little letters somehow don’t seem enough to contain everything that a mum is.

Mums come in all shapes and sizes, but we think that our mums at MIN in particular are of a truly spectacular sort. The courage that they show not only to us, but to their children, is truly inspirational, their dedication to their children never wavering despite the many obstacles they face in their lives.

Mums In Need want to celebrate our mums, and every kind of mum, whether you’re a step-mum, mother-in-law or the might-as-well-be-a-mum kind, we think that you are extraordinary. And we’re pretty sure that your kids will think so too.

Because life is uncertain, and it is testing, but when it is, we all know that having a mum at the other end of the phone to support us is worth everything in the world. So whether you are a mum, have a mum, or know a mum so brilliant that words just don’t seem enough, help MIN to celebrate how lucky the world is to have them.

And for us, ‘mum’ is just a word to describe the person who supports you when you need it the most. This could be an aunt, an uncle, a friend, a colleague- any person that you care about and feel deserves some appreciation not just on this day, but on every day. So help us to thank them and to be thankful yourselves for the people or persons that make your life just that little bit easier.
